Set Up Your Awning when flying solo!
An awning is such a great accessory to mount to your car, 4WD or van. Speedy to setup whilst providing enough shade, shelter and waterproofing to make everyone around a bit jealous!
Being so large in the amount of space they offer coverage for, its almost a natural assumption that it’d be a team effort to set one up, whilst it might be a little bit tricky to setup with a blindfold on, we’re sure that with a few helpful bits of advice, you’ll be able to set yours up blindfolded too if you were so inclined!
Follow these simple steps and you’ll be able to set up your awning in just 30 seconds and get it packed away just about as quickly!
UNZIP THE STORAGE BAG AND REMOVE THE FASTENING STRAPS
First, unzip your awning’s PVC storage bag, all the way open. With the zipper undone, simply undo the restraining straps with one hand while holding the awning in its place with the other hand.
REST IT ON THE ROOF!
This is pro tip straight from the experts, don’t unroll the whole awning just yet.
This step requires you to unroll your awning one or two rolls out from the mount this will give you enough slack to then sit it up on top of your vehicles roof racks, up over the top of the PVC zip up storage bag this free’s you up for the next step!
With the awning out of the way and sitting up on your roof rack, you can now pull unfold the horizontal supports and extend them to around the right length and then lock them into place by twisting the section of leg that’s closest to you.
You need to do this for both sides, and then position the bars so that they sit out just past 90° from the dual channel mounting plate on the vehicle.
UNROLL THE WHOLE WAY OUT!
It’s time to unroll your whole awning all the way out to it’s complete length. The horizontal support legs should still be sitting out a little past 90° to allow you to easily unroll out the awning. When you get to the end and the awning is completely unrolled, you’ll be able to unfold the vertical support legs.
FOLD OUT YOUR LEGS!
Drop your awnings folded vertical legs down, extend them to approximately the right height and lock them in by twisting the lower part of the leg. Do this for both of the vertical legs and sit them on their feet on the ground leaning away from the vehicle. The awnings ripstop polyester fabric will be able to hold the awning frame in place in a roughly horizontal position.
ATTACH THE HORIZONTAL SUPPORTS
Now your Awning is basically free standing the horizontal supports are the missing piece by locating the end pins on the horizontal frame, you can now lock them in at their final location by extending them out the last little bit and twisting the lock to secure your awning. Repeat this step for both sides and then peg out using the included guy ropes, or an Adventure Kings Sand Bag, to weigh down the legs, and the guy ropes attached to the sand bags to add extra security!
As simple as that is, you should reward yourself with an icy cold beverage of choice from inside your Adventure Kings car fridge. It is well deserved!
